The Official Parking Plan for the Tar Heel 10 Miler was developed in close partnership with UNC Police and the Town of Chapel Hill. This plan will work so long as everyone is committed to following it closely. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
To expedite pre-race parking, UNC Police and McLaurin Professional Parking Services, with support from race volunteers, will manage the pre-race parking logistics for the Tar Heel 10 Miler in order to ensure that this important part of race morning goes as smoothly as possible, and so that everyone arrives at the start line in time and without undue stress.
The 3 things you MUST know:
- You MUST plan to arrive and be parked by 6:30 AM to avoid UNC Hospital shift change traffic, and to give yourself time to get at the start line by 7:00 AM. The 4 mile run starts at 7:15 AM and the 10 miler starts at 7:45 AM.
- To minimize congestion on major inbound routes, follow our directions based on your point of origin (location of your home/hotel). See pages 2 & 3 of the PARKING PLAN.
- Follow the instructions of parking professionals and parking volunteers to expedite parking. As parking decks/lots fill up, they will direct you to available parking.
If you can find alternative means of transportation on race morning, please do so. There are plenty of bike racks on campus. Also, we encourage carpooling!
/// [Official Parking Plan]
UNC Hospital Shift Change
At 7:00 AM UNC Hospital has a shift change which results in additional traffic on Manning Drive – the same road used to access the parking lots from Fordham Blvd (Rt 15/501). Our advice, arrive well before 7:00 AM.
Raleigh Road Closed
Raleigh Rd (Rt 54) will be closed from the intersection of 15/501 (Fordham Blvd) to Country Club Rd starting at 5:00 AM on race morning.
Ramshead Parking Deck Closed
Please do not attempt to park in the Ramshead parking deck located on Ridge Rd next to Kenan Stadium as this will be reserved for other campus visitors. Race officials will be monitoring the entrance to this parking deck.
Please [email us] or come see us at the information table on the day of the expo.
